About the Business
I am an artist living and working in the market town of Barnard Castle, in the beautiful Pennine dale of Teesdale. I exhibit widely in the local area, and also in my own studio, where work is permanently on display. Details of my open studios can be found on the exhibitions page, or contact me to visit my studio at another time. I hope you will enjoy looking at my pictures.
My paintings celebrate the glories of the Northern landscape, the natural world, and more recently, aspects of the built environment. I enjoy wild places, and seek to convey my delight with an intense colour palette, sometimes enhanced by the use of collage or gold leaf. I use both acrylics and watercolour, working in an experimental way to achieve a result which is faithful to the place and my emotional response. I also love drawing, and another favourite medium is ink and wash. I particularly enjoy the tracery of bare trees against winter skies.
